Kurt Started his bartending career in Biloxi in Tygervalley centre in Cape Town. From there he moved to Cantina Tequila in Stellenbosch, becoming the bar manager. He won the "Mainstay flair invitational" the following year and started working for the infamous flair bar the Blue Rock in Sea point.

He travelled to the UK and worked as a flair bartender for Long island iced tea in Covenant garden. He returned to South Africa and won the Spiced gold Flair challenge at The Blue rock. He started his first flair tour with the Bols/ Mainstay Summer surfside cocktail road show in December 1993 and did them consecutively for three years while opening up Cantina Tequila's in places like Knysna, Somerset west, Kalk bay.

He started BTW in 1994 and started to train bars & open bars all over South Africa, while developing brand promotions for SFW. In 1996 the BTW events business was in overdrive running all the front & back stage bars for lucky strike concert parties.

In 1999 Kurt travelled to London and trained at the LAB bar in Soho, where coming back to South Africa opened the LAB Cape Town. In 2000 Kurt ran the first of many Cape Town underground Flair Circuit competitions and launched Flairclub in Cape Town.

In 2001 Kurt was sponsored by Red Bull and competed in "The Legends of bartending" in Las Vegas, coming 17th overall in flair. He joined the FBA team and has judged bartending competitions from Dubai to Florida in the last couple of years.

Kurt opened "Industry" bar in Cape town in 2003 and then opened Mink nightclub in 2005. Kurt now lives in JHB and is the training director for BTW and travels aboard on bar consultations and training. Kurt won the National mixology competition in 2007 and continues to grow the business of bartending.
