IBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009:

Marius and Etienne recently attended the International Bartenders Association World Championships in Berlin. Participants from 57 different countries attended the event where the Classic and Flair World Champs were held. Etienne judged the World Flair Competition for the 4th year in a row and is now the chairman of the world flair committee. South Africa is well represented on this world stage and we are hoping to eventually host the World Champs in South Africa. Besides being the most prestigious bartending event in the world it is also a great platform to see new trends in the world of bartending and cocktails. Next year the event will be held in Singapore.

NATIONAL COCKTAIL COMPETITION:

2nd Leg of National Cocktail Competition was as successful as the first – congratulations to the winners and runners up – see you all in Johannesburg next month for the finals:

ROOKIE FLAIR Winner, Etienne Venter (from BTW), with his winning cocktail “ Peachataurus”
1st Runner up – Kent Smith
2nd Runner up – Musa Mgema

PRO FLAIR Winner, Alex Farnell, with his winning cocktail “Cuban Delight”

1st Runner up – Jean-Marc Bouic

CLASSIC COCKTAIL Winner, Owen O’Reilly (from BTW), with his winning cocktails “ Peachy Matdor”, “Cuban Expression” and “Marreuos en la Haban”

2nd Runner up – Ryan Duvenage





TRAINING


As the No. 1 training school in South Africa we have been busy making sure that bartenders around the country are improving their skills.
