NATIONAL CLASSIC COCKTAIL COMPETITION: from Cape Town to Greece

 

 



The Bartenders Workshop hosted the 2006 Bombay Sapphire National Classic Cocktail Competition in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.  The competition was open to all bartenders in South Africa and is the official national classic competition. The finals were held at the 12 Apostles Hotel in Cape Town where Clinton Weir was announced this year’s cocktail champion.

 

Clinton Weir spent time in London with Jamie Walker, the Bombay Sapphire resident mixologist, following participation in the World Championships in Greece at the International Bartenders Association Conference where he was accompanied by Etienne Schlechter.  Clinton who represented South Africa received the 18th place out of 52 countries! 

 

 

IBA FLAIRTENDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

The Bartenders Workshop organised the regional and national finals to find SA’s best flairtender in association with Newscafé, Coca-Cola and Smirnoff.   The winner, Alex Farnell, was accompanied by Etienne Schlechter and Nick Eleftheriadis from Newscafé to compete in Greece at the World Championships.

 

52 Countries were represented with only 4 judges making the final call on the world’s best flairtender.  Etienne was chosen as 1 of the 4 judges which is a huge accolade for South Africa.

LAUNCH OF NEW OLMECA REPOSADO

Olmeca Tequila launched a new premium product called Reposado Supremo in Cape Town and Durban.  It was a hot night altogether with Jaco doing a flame show for the guests.

MALIBU IN-STORE DEMONSTRATIONS

The Bartender Workshop held in-store demonstrations for Malibu in Makro stores.  The mixability of Malibu was demonstrated to customers.  

 

Right: Kurt Schlecter shows how it’s done!  There was lots of interaction with customers and the cocktails made were a hit!

ICE LOUNGE TO LAUNCH SOON

A very cool (in the true sense of the word) concept has hit locals and tourists in the V&A Waterfront.  

 

As seen in the photograph to the right, the walls, bars and just about everything else is made of ice.  This sub-zero experience is not to be missed!

 

All the bars will be run by The Bartenders Workshop. 

 

You can find this very cool hang out at next to the CD Warehouse at the V&A Waterfront.
